An insulin's action profile is the expected action it takes to lower blood glucose levels over time. This action is often described by three characteristics, expressed in hours:

Note: This wiki is mainly concerned with the blood glucose action profile. Physicians and researchers are sometimes also concerned with the profile of the insulin itself (how quickly it reaches and leaves the bloodstream), but our terms here do not refer to that.
